Often we make our own opinion without thinking twice on the issue. If we feel the things are wrong, we certify that the things are actually wrong. If we feel the other person is bad, we conclude that he/she is certified bad. But sometimes, this perception changes when we realize that we thought from just one way track. We never bothered to listen to the other side of the story.
Here is a small experience. One day when a person was for his flight, He noticed a kiosk selling coconut biscuits. He bought a packet, put it in his traveling bag and then patiently searched for an available seat so that he could sit down and enjoy his biscuits. Finally he found a seat next to a gentleman. He smiled and sat patiently and reached down into the traveling bag and pulled out the packet of the coconut biscuits.
As he did so, he noticed that the gentleman, sitting next to him, whom he smiled at, started staring at him. Where his hand went, the gentleman’s eyes would follow the same. Suddenly the gentlemen sitting next to him, picked one biscuit from his packet and started eating. He was more than surprised at this. For every one biscuit he picked, the gentlemen picked the same. This continued till the packet was finished.
Now, what’s your immediate impression about this gentleman? Crazy? Greedy? He’s got some nerve? Can you imagine the words you might use to describe this gentleman?
After the packet was finished, this gentleman left without even saying a single word of thanks.
This person was stuck, wondering, “Did this really happen?” He was left sitting there dumbfounded and still hungry. So he went back to the kiosk and bought another packet of coconut biscuit. When he turned to his seat and began opening the coconut packet biscuit he accidentally glanced down into his traveling bag. Sitting there in his bag was his original coconut biscuit packet – still unopened. Only then he realized that when he reached down earlier, he had reached into the gentleman’s bag, and grabbed his packet of biscuit. Now what do you think of this gentleman? Generous? Tolerant?
You’ve just experienced a profound paradigm shift. You’re seeing things from a new point of view. The negative suddenly became positive. The wrong became right.
Is it time to change our point of view?
Now, think of this story as it relates to your life. Seeing things from a new point of view can be very enlightening. Think outside the box. Don’t settle for the status quo. Be open to suggestions. Things may not be what they seem.
